That’s why we’ve been moving toward IP66-rated infrared heaters. This isn’t about making the bathroom look fancy. It’s about making sure your electronics don’t fry the second you take a hot shower. Dealing with the steam Here is the deal with that IP66 rating: it basically means the unit is sealed tight. No dust gets in, and water jets can’t penetrate it. In a bathroom, you’ve got a constant battle with splashes and heavy fog. Standard heaters let that moisture creep inside the housing. Once it’s in there, it starts eating away at the wiring. You get oxidation, the components corrode, and then—pop—it burns out. By sealing the unit, we keep the guts dry and stop that decay before it even starts. Heat that actually hits you We use shortwave infrared for these. If you’ve used a convection heater, you know the drill: it warms up the air, which then slowly warms up the room. It takes forever. Infrared is different. It doesn’t waste time heating your ceiling or the walls. Instead, it beams the heat directly onto you and the surfaces around you. You flip the switch, and you feel it immediately. It’s fast. Really fast. A few things to keep in mind Now, you can’t just plug these into a wall outlet and call it a day. They pull a lot of power to get that instant heat, so you’ll need a dedicated circuit. Make sure your breakers are spec’d correctly, or you’ll be heading back to the fuse box more often than you’d like. Also, there is one trade-off. Because the IP66 housing is so tightly sealed, the heat gets trapped inside the chassis. This means the outer casing getshot to the touch. You’ve got to leave plenty of clearance between the heater and anything flammable—especially your ceiling—so you don’t end up with scorch marks.
