
Getting the Heat Right in Husky HyPET Preforms
If you’ve ever dealt with PET preforms, you know the struggle. You need them hot—really hot—but the moment you crank up the wattage, you risk scorching the surface. It’s a balancing act. In those high-speed Husky HyPET systems, the real battle is thermal penetration. You can’t just heat the “skin” of the plastic. You need that heat to soak all the way into the core, fast. If you don’t, you end up with stress marks or thin spots when the bottle finally blows. It’s frustrating, and it kills your yield.
How we actually get the heat inside
Most standard quartz tubes just dump energy on the surface. We do things a bit differently. By using specific coatings and gas fills, we shift the infrared spectrum. Instead of the heat sitting on the outside, it pushes deeper into the PET material. It stops that annoying “skin effect” where the outside is burning while the inside is still cold. We also tightened up the tolerances on the filament winding. This creates a more concentrated thermal footprint. The result? Your preforms hit their glass transition temperature way faster, which is the only way to keep up when your HyPET line is screaming along at full speed.
The nitty-gritty on the hardware
We didn’t want you to have to rewire your entire oven just to use our lamps. They’re simple drop-in replacements. We use standard R7s and Sk15 connectors, so they just click right into your existing sockets. And because these machines cycle rapidly, we used heavy-wall quartz glass. It can take the thermal shock without cracking. One quick heads-up on power: we offer a few different voltage options to match your setup. But keep in mind, if you push higher wattage into a shorter tube, your oven’s cooling fans have to work harder. If your cooling is a bit weak, your electrodes might overheat, and your lamps won’t last nearly as long.
What this looks like on the floor
When these are running, you’ll notice you don’t need as many heating passes. The temperature profile across the preform body is just… smoother. That means fewer rejects hitting the bin and a much faster ramp-up when you’re switching production.
