
Better IR Lamps for Your Sidel SBO and Matrix Lines
When we set out to build these replacement IR lamps, we had one goal: make them just work. Whether you’re still running the old-school SBO 4/6 models or you’ve moved up to the Matrix series, these are designed to be a direct swap. No hacking the oven racks. No rewiring the controllers. Just a straight exchange. Getting the heat right Sidel machines are picky. You need that specific shortwave infrared to soften the PET preforms just enough—without scorching the plastic and ruining the batch. That’s why we matched the wattage and voltage exactly to the original SBO specs. If you’re running a high-speed line, you know you need serious heat density. To handle that, we use heavy-wall quartz glass. It stops the tubes from bowing when things get incredibly hot. The “Perfect Fit” Problem Most replacement lamps fail because the physical dimensions are off by a fraction of a millimeter. It’s frustrating. You try to force it in, and suddenly you’re worried about breaking a socket. We fixed that. We use precision-ground ends so the lamps actually seat the way they should. Whether you’ve got R7s or those proprietary Sidel connectors, these just slide right in. Plus, we use a halogen cycle to stop the tungsten filament from evaporating too fast. In plain English? Your lamps last longer before they burn out. Putting them to work It’s a simple process. Pull the old tube, slide ours in, and you’re back in business. Because the dimensions are spot on, you don’t end up with those annoying gaps in your heating zone. One quick tip, though. If you decide to push higher wattages to speed up your cycles, remember that your power supplies are working harder. Check your cooling fans. If the oven isn’t venting that ambient heat, the lamp ends will fail early. We built these to take a beating, but physics is physics—they still need to breathe.
