Picking Your Gear
If you’re building a hot dog warmer or a small industrial oven, go for emitters with a high wattage-to-length ratio. It lets you keep the machine compact without sacrificing power. We stick to standard connectors—things like R7s or Sk15—so you can just swap them out without a headache. One quick tip: if you’re wiring these into a high-voltage setup, double-check that your controllers can handle that first big surge of current when they kick on.
The Catch (And How to Handle It)
Now, IR isn’t perfect. It’s directional. If your product isn’t sitting just right, you’ll end up with hot spots. You have to find that sweet spot between the IR intensity and the airflow. Otherwise, you’ll scorch the outside of your food while the middle is still cold. But the payoff is huge. Slashing your preheat time makes everything run smoother. Just a heads-up: make sure your housing can take the heat, especially around the ends of the tubes. And for heaven’s sake, check your cooling fans. If they aren’t up to the task, you’ll end up frying your wiring.
