
Getting Your Sidel Matrix Lamps Right
Here’s the problem with swapping out OEM lamps in a Sidel Matrix blower for aftermarket ones: if the heat curve shifts even a little, you’re in trouble. Your PET preforms won’t heat evenly, and suddenly you’re fighting with your settings all day. That’s why we didn’t just “make a similar lamp.” We built these to be exact clones of the factory specs. When you pop them in, the heat distribution stays exactly where it should be.
Why the “Exact Match” Matters
Matching the wattage on a spec sheet isn’t enough. If the voltage or current draw is off, the heat density changes. Even a tiny difference in resistance means the heat hits the plastic differently. We spent a lot of time obsessing over the filament—the length, the diameter, the whole bit. Why? Because we want the infrared radiation to hit the preform with the same intensity as the original. It stops those annoying “cold spots” and prevents that cloudy, pearlescent look in the bottle walls that ruins a batch.
No Fuss, Just Fit
These are true drop-in replacements. We used the same connectors and the same physical dimensions. You won’t be spending your afternoon modifying lamp holders or messing with wiring. We also used a high-stability quartz envelope. These machines cycle fast and get incredibly hot; these lamps can handle that stress without burning out early. Plus, we added a specific short-wave infrared coating. It helps the PET material soak up the heat more efficiently, which means less energy is wasted just heating up the air inside your oven.
One Thing to Watch Out For
Look, these lamps put out a massive amount of heat in a very short window. It’s powerful stuff. But that energy puts a real load on your oven’s ventilation. If your cooling blowers are clogged or just aren’t doing their job, the ambient temperature in the heating station will spike. Keep your airflow clear. If the ends of the lamps overheat because of poor ventilation, the quartz tubes won’t last nearly as long as they should. Keep it breezy, and they’ll keep running.
